Mummified body found in abandoned ETX buildings

A mummified body was found in an abandoned building in Tyler Friday. Police say the body is unidentifiable at the time.

Tyler Police told CBS 19 area residents discovered a mummified human body at abandoned buildings on the 900 block of N. Glenwood Blvd shortly after 1 p.m. April 14, 2017.

Police noted there were mattresses and blankets where the body was found. They said homeless people often take refuge there.

Investigators have confirmed that the deceased was a male and Judge Alfred ordered an autopsy with Southeast Texas Forensic Center in Tyler.

Authorities are currently investigating to determine the identity and possible cause of death.

"This was a human being. Somebody loved them. Somebody missed them,"  Officer Jeremy Rackcliff said, "If they're homeless people, it's going to be hard because oftentimes there's a lot of time that goes by before somebody notices they're gone."

We will update this story with more details as soon as they become available.
