Nacogdoches County Sex Offender Check

NACOGDOCHES CO. (KYTX)- On Wednesday morning around 7:00 am The Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office conducted a verification check of sex offenders who reside in Nacogdoches County.

Sheriff Jason Bridges stated that there are currently 86 registered sex offenders in Nacogdoches County that report to the sheriff office.

Fifteen officers were used to conduct the checks that started Wednesday morning. Agencies that included the Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office, U.S. Marshall Service, and Texas Department of Public Safety conducted the county wide checks to make sure that all offenders were in compliance.

Sheriff Jason Bridges stated that of the 86 registered sex offenders who were investigated, that nine of them will require a follow up investigation. As of right now we expect at least four warrants to be issued for failure to comply with sex offender registration which is a felony offense.

The Nacogdoches County Sheriff Office makes random checks on sex offenders throughout the year in Nacogdoches County. This is the second check within a year that all sex offenders were checked at once. These checks are conducted to send a message to all sex offenders that they will be arrested if they are found in violation of their probation agreement.

Normally, an offender has strict rules tied to their release, which can include a specific location in which they are allowed to and designated to live. If they are found to be living somewhere other than that location, or if they violate any other aspect of their release agreement, then we will obtain a warrant for their arrest.

Sheriff Bridges stated that weeks of planning and coordination among agencies went into this event to make it happen. Officers were divided into teams and had packets of each sex offender to check on.

Information obtained by these officers will be sent to investigators who will then conduct a follow up investigation on those sex offenders that we believe are not in compliance. After the investigation is concluded, a warrant will be sought for their arrest if they are not in compliance.
