DPS investigators confirmed Sunday that 57-year-old Robert Earl Davis died Saturday night in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 59.
Trooper John Riggins placed the time of the accident at 8:22pm. His investigation showed that Davis' white Dodge Ram was southbound on the highway near County Road 264 when it left the road, turned over, hit a tree and ejected Davis. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:30pm by Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Dorothy Tigner-Thompson and taken to a local funeral home.
It is not clear what caused the accident. The speed limit along that section of Highway 59 is 75 miles per hour. Riggins' investigation showed that Davis was not wearing a seatbelt.
Davis' next of kin were notified.
