Natchitoches police officer behind bars, accused of abducting man

DESOTO PARISH, La. (KTBS) - An Arklatex police officer finds himself on the wrong side of the law.

A Natchitoches police officer is behind bars this morning in connection with a kidnapping that happened in Sabine Parish.

Louisiana State Police confirm that the search has ended for the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Robert Barthelemy.

DeSoto Parish Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle says Barthelemy allegedly abducted Tony Procell at gunpoint early Wednesday morning.

Barthelemy was captured hours later.

Procell is still missing at this hour.

Barthelemy was taken to the DeSoto Parish Jail and charged with aggravated kidnapping.

The Natchitoches Police Department released the following statement:

The Natchitoches Police Department confirms that one of their officers has indeed been arrested in Desoto Parish on charges stemming from an incident that occurred in Sabine Parish on yesterdays date. Robert Barthelemy, a two year veteran of the department has been placed on administrative leave by Chief Micky Dove at this time. The Natchitoches Police Department is referring all other comments and press releases concerning the criminal aspect of this case to the Sabine Parish Sheriff's office. There will be no further comments from the Natchitoches Police Department on this matter.

According to the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office, Barthelemy has agreed to take police to the last location he took Procell. Authorities have also confirmed that there is surveillance video of the abduction at one of the locations.
