(CNN) - South Africa's former president, Nelson Mandela, is in the hospital.
The 94 year old anti-apartheid icon is suffering from a recurring lung infection, according to his office. South Africa's government released a statement saying doctors are attending to him and ensuring he has the best possible medical treatment and comfort. They also asked the people of the world to pray for Mandela and his family.
Mandela's office says he was admitted to the hospital Wednesday night.
