New East Texas lotto winner talks about his winnings

TROUP (KYTX) -- There's a brand new, big time East Texas lottery winner. We tracked him down today at the very gas station where he bought his winning ticket, where people are saying it couldn't have happened to a more deserving person.

Jimmie McCoy is a man known around town, and he always comes into this Troup gas station, and takes a look at this case of lottery tickets. But, he rarely has the money to buy a ticket because he was laid off from his job nearly a year ago.

Last week, though, he used $10 and made a purchase of a lifetime.

You may have seen this brand new pick-up truck around town, but I bet you didn't know the man inside is worth a million dollars. "I was driving an old 1991 Chevy truck and my wife was driving a 1995 S10 that was worn out."

Jimmie McCoy was laid off from his job nearly a year ago. It's been hard work for the married father with seven children at home, and an income of only $300 a week. "Last Christmas, I had to sell my racing go kart just to buy my kids Christmas."

But his life changed last Friday, when he walked into that Troup gas station. "I came in the store, they scanned it the next morning, went to the lottery offices and collected $749,000 after taxes."

This is the lucky ticket that won Jimmy a million dollars. The funny thing is, he almost didn't buy it.

"I said Jimmy, buy this ticket, and he did it was worth a million dollars." Cindy, his favorite cashier, convinced him to spend the little money he had to buy the ten dollar scratch off.
You might call her lucky, she's a former lottery winner herself. "I won $25,000 four years ago."
Jimmie may be the million dollar man, but he says his "new money" isn't going to change him. "I'm still going to be an old country boy. Look at how I'm dressed...I'm not going to buy a lot of flashy suits."

Because Jimmie purchased the winning ticket there, the gas station will receive ten thousand dollars. Troup is a small town, so word spread quickly of Jimmie's luck. This gas station has been flooded with people hoping for the same luck.

Jimmie McCoy is one of only four people in Texas to win using the new Texas lottery black scratch off ticket. We're told two other tickets are out there worth the same amount.
