Nine years in prison for Kilgore man who threatened father, police

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A Gregg County jury handed down nine years in prison for a Kilgore man police say threatened to kill himself, his father and police officers during a May 2013 standoff.

Fifty-one-year-old William Emmett Lawson pled guilty Monday to aggravated kidnapping. Police say Lawson locked himself and his father in a truck with spewing propane tank and threatened to ignite it during a standoff with Kilgore police in the 500 block of Gladewater Street.

After two days of testimony and two hours of deliberations, jurors rejected Lawson's plea for probation and sentenced him to prison.
