(CBS) - The winter storm that pounded East TexaS and the deep South has moved north.
They are preparing for at least a half foot of snow, from the Carolinas through Maine. Roads were impassable in North Carolina and Atlanta. Many people stayed home as up to a half inch of ice coated the streets.
Hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses are still without power and the numbers are growing this morning. More than 4,000 flights have been canceled today because of winter storms. Even first responders are having a hard time getting around, slipping and sliding as they try to get their vehicles moving again.
All government offices are closed for the day as this is expected to be the biggest storm to hit the nation's capitol in four years. At least 11 deaths are already blamed on the storm.
