(CNN) - The National Rifle Association is holding what it calls a "major" news conference today.
NRA Executive Director Wayne LaPierre will discuss what the group calls "meaningful contributions" to prevent future mass shootings. In an earlier statement, the N-R-A said its members were -quote- "shocked, saddened and heartbroken" by last Friday's deadly shootings in Newtown, Connecticut.
Twenty-six people, including 20 children, died after police say Adam Lanza attacked Sandy Hook Elementary School. Lanza also killed his mother at their home, and took his own life.
