Overnight fire destroys business, property in Tyler

An overnight fire on Hwy 155 destroyed stored RVs and one business on Nov. 5, 2017.

TYLER - A large structure fire that broke out overnight in Tyler damaged stored property and destroyed at least one business, according to Smith County Fire Marshal Connie McCoy-Wasson.

Crews responded to the structure fire around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night at CubeSmart Self-Storage located in the 12000 block of Highway 155 South.

Residents who live on the property called in the fire.

According to Wasson, the fire appears to have started in the area where RVs and motor homes are stored. The roof collapsed during the blaze, so at this time it is unknown how many RVs were damaged or destroyed.

High winds spread the fire to a nearby business called Racer's Choice. It is a complete loss.

At one point, Tyler Police shut down all North and South bound traffic on Highway 155 South and County Road 1114, but has since been reopened.

As of Monday, the fire is still active, but under control, according to the Fire Marshal.

Fire Departments from Noonday, Flint/Gresham, Bullard, Tyler, Whitehouse, Dixie, Chapel Hill and Winona responded.
