Palestine PD investigates overnight shooting

PALESTINE (KYTX) - Palestine Police are investigating an overnight shooting that left a man injured.

According to The Palestine Herald, the victim, identified as 31-year-old Edgar Torres of Palestine, was treated for a wound to the right side at Palestine Regional Medical Center around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators learned that the victim was looking at a handgun that he was going to buy in the 400 block of Cherokee Street when he allegedly accidentally shot himself in the side.

Sgt. James Muniz told The Palestine Herald that Torres was not able to give the names of any other person that was there at the time of the shooting.

Officers determined, based on the information given by Torres, that he was in Green's Park at the time of the incident. Officers went to the park but were not able to find evidence that a shooting happened there.

Torres is stable at Palestine Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Palestine Police Department is continuing to investigate the case.
