Palestine police charge man after illegal drugs found at residence

PALESTINE (KYTX) - Palestine Police went to a home in the 400 block of Hamlet St. Wednesday in reference to illegal dumping. While at this location officers could smell the distinct odor of marijuana coming from the residence.

After smelling the marijuana Corporal Mat Kerr began an investigation into the possibility of drugs being at this location.

Police were able to secure the residence and obtain a warrant to search the residence for any possible drugs. Police were able to obtain a search warrant for the property and conducted said search during the noon hours. During the search police located marijuana, crack cocaine and an assorted number of pills. All of the items will be taken to the DPS Crime Lab for testing.

One man was arrested and charged with several charges including Manufacturing/Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 between 4 and 200 grams, a First Degree Felony. Manufacturing/Delivery of Controlled Substance PG3 less than 28 grams a State Jail Felony and Possession of Marijuana between 2 and 4 ounces, a Class A Misdemeanor.

A First Degree Felony carries a max punishment of 5 to 99 years or Life in prison. A State Jail Felony carries a max punishment of 2 years in State Jail. A Class "A" misdemeanor carries a max punishment of 1 year in the County Jail.

The name of the person arrested will not be release until such time that he has been arraigned by the judge or magistrate.
