SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) - One person is killed in an early morning auto-pedestrian accident.
DPS troopers tell CBS19 it happened around 6:50 on Highway 31, just West of Greenbriar Road in Smith County.
DPS tells us an 18-wheeler was stopped on Highway 31 East. The truck driver, from El Salvador who lives in Houston, was trying to figure out where to take his truck load, according to DPS trooper Richard Hoover.
As he was walking back to his truck, while it was still dark outside, a car struck him. DPS says that car was driven by a 19-year old Tyler woman. DPS says she was taking her kids to school at the time of the accident and will not be cited for the crash because the Houston man was not walking in a crosswalk.
The Tyler mother will, however, be ticketed for not having a driver's license on her and for failure to properly secure a child under 8 years old.
DPS says the woman told troopers the man was also wearing dark clothing and she didn't see him until she hit him with her car.
The victim's name has not been released, pending notification of family.
DPS, Tyler Police, and Dixie Fire Department all responded to the scene.
