LIBERTY CITY (KYTX) - Vickie Vetrano has lived in Liberty City thirty years and says it's time for paid firefighters and E.M.S.
Jamie Council agrees, though she's thankful for local volunteers.
A week ago, volunteers submitted to Gregg County a petition with 106 qualified signatures, asking commissioners to create the county's second E.S.D.
It would stretch from the Smith and Rusk counties lines, to the Sabine River and Kilgore city limits.
Sabine fire chief Richard Sisk says, if created, the E.S.D would assess a five-cent property tax.
Sisk says firefighters could spend less time fundraising, and more time training in fire prevention and replace fire engines that are approaching 30 years old.
