Petitions to be turned in Friday for alcohol in Whitehouse

UPDATE: WHITEHOUSE (KYTX) - Phil Rogers with the Whitehouse Committee for Growth says the signatures will be turned in at 10 a.m. Friday.

WHITEHOUSE (KYTX) - The chairman of "Whitehouse Committee for Growth," Phil Rogers, says the group collected enough signatures petitioning for off premise beer and wine consumption in time for today's deadline.

But, turning in those petitions is not a move people like Thelma Bain support.

"We don't need any beer and wine in Whitehouse." she says. "We've got too many children here in Whitehouse."

"We're not sitting on a major highway." says Rogers. "We're not sitting on a 69 or an I-20, so we need to do everything we can to keep revenue in this town."

More than 1,800 signatures were needed to place the proposition on precinct one May ballots - and 735 signatures were needed in Whitehouse.
