Pilot of small plane makes emergency landing near Mt. Vernon

FRANKLIN CO. (KYTX) – The pilot of a small plane had to make an emergency landing Thursday morning after his aircraft lost power.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Sylvia Jennings says 79-year-old Bobby Kenneth Perry was in route to Winnsboro when he was forced to crash land in an open field striking several trees and tearing off both wings of the plane.

Jennings said no other persons were on board. Mr. Perry was airlifted to ETMC in Tyler with serious, incapacitating injuries.

The plane went down around 8:02 a.m. on property owned by Garth Perrett located off Hwy. 37, south of Mt. Vernon.
