LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Pine Tree ISD unanimously voted on a separation agreement with Coach Derek Fitzhenry this afternoon.
The board called a special meeting today.
Behind closed doors trustees discussed a settlement agreement with Coach Fitzhenry's attorney for more than 2 hours.
A deal was reached and fitzhenry will receive a 40,000 dollar severance package.
Fitzhenry came under fire after he allegedly pushed a student, and in a separate incident, attempted to change school policies.
The parent of the student who says he was pushed talked to CBS 19 exclusively. He did not want his identity revealed, but says he is glad its over.
"He is leaving. And I think that was the goal of a lot of parents. I am just glad that this situation is about to be over, and that the athletic department and school district can move forward," says the parent of the student that was pushed.
An interim head coach and athletic director has been named. Former offensive coordinator Derrick Hennigan will take over for the Pirates, who play at Hallsville tonight.
