Tyler (KYTX) - "Go poetry!" Local artist Deborah Jones is a painter and a poet and she says it was a good idea to share the spotlight this year with poetry.
"There are a lot of us out there who are writing away our souls who are writing our souls in the same way that painters do," she said.
Jones says since poets don't have a canvas, events like the Artwalk are a good outlet for writers too.
"It's tougher to get noticed because its not on canvas its not a visual thing and it requires a setting it requires quiet, it requires reading its tougher," said Jones.
"I'm a big fan of poetry I've been hoping we could do something like this to bring it together. Today would be the first one and they chose to have it here," said owner of The Glass Onion, Felecia Holloway.
Holloway said the Artwalk really brings a lot of traffic to the downtown area, which also helps business.
"It's good for the community , its good for business and of course supporting the local artists, she said.
"So far we've seen some really neat art," said event goer, Amanda Storer.
Storer said it was a good day to come out, enjoy some sunshine and mingle with the local artists, she said.
"It's really neat to get to talk to the artist one on one and see and they're able to share and tell you how they've made things and how you can do it for yourself at home," said Storer.
