Pope John Paul II will be named a saint

VATICAN CITY (CNN) - Pope John Paul II will be named a Saint.

Vatican officials made the announcement this morning. Pope Francis signed a decree allowing for the Canonization of the beloved Pope. Also gaining Sainthood: Pope John XXIII, who presided over the church's historic second Vatican council in the 1960s.

No date has been announced for the Canonization ceremonies. Pope John Paul II presided over the church's one-billion worldwide Catholics from 1978, until his death in 2005.
