Power outages end quickly, Oncor credits lightning for ease of repairs

The lights are back on across most of East Texas. Most of the outages lasted less than two hours.

Oncor spokesperson Charles Hill said that's thanks to the way Thursday's storm passed through the area. The wind wasn't blowing very fast. Instead, lightning was the largest factor.

"We can go out and replace a fuse. It's a thirty minute proposition. When you have a high wind storm, the damage is sometimes so severe it can take ten hours just to get the trees trimmed so you can go to work."

Lightning does have its down sides though.

It toppled a tree in central Tyler. It also burned a home to the ground in Frankston--the second house in East Texas to burn after a lightning strike this week.
