Preliminary autopsy report shows Rusk man committed suicide

RUSK (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - A preliminary autopsy report in the death of a Rusk man shows that the cause was suicide, Rusk Police Chief Jamie Campbell said this morning.

The man was found in front of a Rusk area church on Friday.

Campbell has said police were called about 6:30 a.m. that day in reference to a person lying in front of Memorial Missionary Baptist Church on Crockett Street. When officers arrived, the person was already deceased, he has said.

Police were still investigating the cause of death Friday morning, and the body was sent for an autopsy.

Campbell said the man is not a member of the church, and the county had a call on him before his body was found.

"He was acting odd, acting strange, but apparently the officer never located him (at that time)," he said.

"I know he has been struggling with substance abuse for quite a while…He's had a lot of problems."
