Prosecutors will not seek death penalty in 2013 Tyler motel murder case

TYLER (KYTX) - Four defendants charged with capital murder will not face the death penalty.

CBS 19 has learned the motion was filed Thursday on behalf of the State, and prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against the suspects charged with the June 15, 2013 shooting death of 26-year-old Wesley Scott Lester who was murdered at the American Inn Motel in Tyler.

Charged with capital murder are 34-year-old Michael Browning, 19-year-old Broderick Smith, 18-year-old Darian Pilkinton, and 20-year-old Lawrence Murphy Jr. Each faces an automatic life sentence if convicted.
