Pursuit of robbery suspects lead to suspected drunk driver

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - A store robbery reported Monday night led Longview police to a suspected drunk driver.

According to records in Gregg County's Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, an officer was dispatched to Cowboys Quik Stop, at 601 Mobberly Avenue in Longview, on a robbery-in-progress call. The officer was advised that two black men went into the convenience store with pistols drawn.

As he arrived at the store, the officer saw a tan Chevy Suburban occupied by two black men traveling west at high speeds on East Avalon Street. The officer used his emergency siren and overhead light, and the driver, later identified as 31-year-0ld Anthony Christian, stopped the vehicle for a moment, them sped away once the officer exited his patrol car.

Christian later pulled his vehicle into a location in the 400 block of East Birdsong Street, where he was taken into custody after he jumped out of the Suburban.

The officer performed a field sobriety test on Christian after smelling alcohol on his breath, according to court records. Christian was arrested on drunk driving and evading arrest charges after he was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center, where was warrant was obtained for a blood-alcohol test.

Christian, who is being held on $7,500 bond, has been arrested 18 times since 2001.

Longview police have not said whether Christian is connected to the Cowboys Quik Stop robbery, or if there are other suspects.
