Rep. Simpson pre-files anti-TSA patdown bill

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - State Rep. David Simpson, R-Longview, pre-filed a bill Monday to stop what he considers aggressive groping by Transportation Safety Administration employees at Texas airports and transportation terminals.

House Bill 80 would make it a criminal act to intentionally touch a person's private areas "including through clothing" without probable cause in the process of determining whether to grant someone access to a public venue or means of public transportation. According to the tenthamendmentcenter.com, the act also provides additional protection for minors.

Simpson sponsored a similar bill (House Bill 1937) in the 2010 state legislative sessions. It passed the Texas House and the Senate Transportation and Homeland Security Committee, but a U.S. attorney stopped the bill after he delivered a letter to several senators. The bill was placed on a special session bill by Gov. Rick Perry, but it still did not pass.
