KILGORE/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - When Jerry Patterson moved to Fritz-Swanson Road in north Kilgore five months ago, he noticed something was missing.
"I hadn't found a speed limit sign over there, and I thought, being new to the area, I wanted to find out what the speed limits are in my neighborhood," Patterson said.
We drove down Fritz-Swanson Road, from its southernmost point near downtown Kilgore north to FM 1252. We found only one speed sign, and it was not in the Kilgore city limits.
Kilgore city leaders and police tell us that, under city and state law, any road without a posted speed sign has a maximum speed limit of 30 miles per hour.
But Kilgore City Manager Scott Sellers has asked the public works department to look at the section of Fritz-Swanson Road inside the city limits to see if and where speed signs are needed.
