TYLER (KYTX) - East Texas students are making big strides to help fellow children in need.
Wednesday, Rice Elementary second graders donated more than 750 pairs of socks to St. Paul's Children's Foundation in Tyler.
Two weeks ago the students came up with the idea on their own, and even passed their goal of 650 pairs of socks.
"We went to the store and bought the socks and it was really fun. I think the St. Paul's people are going to be very happy!" says Rice Elementary School second grader Zachary McDonald.
"We did not know they were collecting," says St. Paul's Development Director Mitzie Avera. "It was a total surprise, and we have just been blown away by their generosity!"
When the weather starts to get cool, lots of families depend on St. Paul's clothes closet to stay warm. Volunteers say this donation will help tremendously.
