HOUSTON (KHOU) -- Former Congressman Ron Paul is catching heat over a tweet he wrote about the shooting death of noted former Navy SEAL sniper Chris Kyle.
Just before noon Monday @RonPaul tweeted, "Chris Kyle's death seems to confirm that ‘he who lives by the sword dies by the sword.' Treating PTSD at a firing range doesn't make sense."
Some of Paul's followers responded in support, saying, "Ron Paul is a man who stands firm with what he believes, for better or for worse. He's a brave man."
Many others, however, responded negatively.
"Very disrespectful commentary to this man, his memory and his family. Shame on you. #HonorChrisKyle," wrote another follower.
Kyle was a former top Navy SEAL sniper who authorities said was killed at a Texas shooting range over the weekend. Deputies said a soldier suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder turned his gun on Kyle and another person before fleeing the scene.
Kyle was known around the country for his numerous sniper kills during his four tours of duty in Iraq. After he left the Navy, he wrote a best-selling book and made several TV appearances.
