LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - At the Longview Exhibit Building, it's a rummage sale for Mobberly Baptist Church. Help yourself, and help East Texans in need.
"Everything from housewares, to furniture, clothing, Christmas and seasonal items, books, DVDs, electronics, hunting, I mean everything," volunteer Heather Brown said. "It's here."
Twenty-five-thousand square feet of items, from vintage records to electronics not often found in this century. And the proceeds from all sales help pay bills for Gregg County residents in their time of need.
"A small garage sale, you might won't buy something because you think it's maybe a dollar too high," Longview shopper Betty Smith said. "Here, I don't mind, because it's going to a needy cause."
Smith found several wants and needs Friday, including a plate holder. "I usually get things I don't need, but I actually needed that."
And when we say everything is for sale, "Oh goodness, everything under the sun. Everything you could find in your house or your neighbor's, it's here," volunteer Heather Brown said.
If you're ready to jingle all the way, they've got Christmas cups, angles, all kinds of things that are available, and Saturday, everything is going to be 50 percent off.
*In the first year, $24,000 was raised, and $18,000 was raised in the second year for East Texans in need, said Greg Scobee who organizes the annual sale.
"It was really the perfect time to start doing this, before, it was just people giving at church," Scobee said.
And the money helps in a lot of ways.
"They can't quite make their telephone bill, electric bill, water bill, or they need medicine for their kids gas in their car, or food," said Scobee.
Volunteers say they want.
Every piece of merchandise sold when the doors close at 1 p.m. Saturday. There might be chances of rain in the forecast, but, "You don't have to go but one place, and it's air-conditioned in here. Very cool, very nice," Smith said.
And remember, the dollars that are raised at this rummage sale go to Gregg County residents in need. It's going to be open Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Everything will be half off.
