Rusk Co. JP rejects bond for weekend shooting suspect

HENDERSON (KYTX) - A Rusk County justice of the peace rejected bond Sunday for a man shot by a Kilgore fire marshal over the weekend.

Kenny Davlin is in the Rusk County Jail, charged with aggravated assault of a public servant, after Kilgore firefighters say he threatened them with an assault rifle Saturday morning.

Firefighters were dousing a house fire on peach street.

Fire Marshal Brandon Bigos used his firearm to shoot Davlin in the shoulder.

Davlin was treated at a local hospital before he was booked into jail.

Longview Fire Marshal Johnny Zackary says incidents where firefighters are threatened are becoming more common.

"We are certified peace officers, and we do carry firearms. That is a defense mechanism for when people decide they want to cause harm to the firefighters or the investigators on the scene," Zackary says.

Texas Rangers and the state fire marshal's office are investigating Saturday's incident. Bigos has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
