"Save Our Steel Jobs" rally underway

LONE STAR TX. (KYTX) - A public rally is underway at the U.S. Steel Lone Star Tubular Operations focusing on fighting to save steel jobs in the face of a looming trade case.

A surge of dumped imports of pipe and tube products used for energy exploration has hit the local steel industry, which has employed thousands of Texas residents for years.

Speakers at the rally will address these key questions:

Will the United States replace its dependence on foreign oil with a reliance on dumped oil country tubular goods (OCTG) imports that are used to extract natural gas and oil in places like Texas's Haynesville Shale deposit? Or, will Texas workers have a fair chance to compete in this growing market?

The event is hosted by the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM), along with partnership from the United Steelworkers and United States Steel Corporation.

AAM is a non-profit, non-partisan partnership formed in 2007 by some of America's leading manufacturers and the United Steelworkers.
