(KYTX) -- You may be already trying to cheat your way out of some new year resolutions-- specifically fitness goals. Our Jaime Gerik shares how to stick to your new healthy routine, long after the start of the new year.
"Today is leg day, that's my middle of the week workout," Roy Morrison, a Tyler man who exercises 3 times a week, said.
Like most people, Morrison wants to start off 2014 on the right foot. "I want to be consistent with exercise and diet. I think I'd like to see my diet more in line with my goals," Morrison said.
He's had a personal trainer for 2 years now, and says someone holding him accountable makes a difference.
"It's been an improvement. I have more energy," Morrison said.
Personal trainer Daniel Treat says XTC in Tyler has been packed in the evenings, but by February that passion fades away.
"30 percent are going to be gone after first 4 weeks," Treat said.
If you don't want to be one of those people, make short-term goals and switch up your routine to work out different muscles.
"Try something new each time, and you'll develop a habit where you'll feel guilty for not showing up," Treat said.
He adds that diet is 80 percent of the battle, so you have to watch what you eat.
"Don't have the fried food. Start with something grilled, add veggies take away carbs at night time. Little things like that will build up in the long run," Treat said.
If weight loss is your goal, Treat says shoot for 10 pounds in 6 weeks. Once you step on the scale, that should be motivation enough to come back.
"I've never left and felt wow that was a mistake to come in," Morrison said.
