TEXARKANA, TEXAS (KTBS) - The woman at the center of the ricin scare, Shannon Richardson, is now a mother.
Her estranged husband's attorney, John Delk, says Richardson gave birth to a severely premature baby boy, Brody, on the fourth of July. Brody weighed in at just under two pounds and was born some four months prior to his projected due date at the end of October.
He was born at Good Shephard Hospital in Longview and has remained hospitalized since birth. Brody was transferred to another hospital in a different city for surgery and other treatment due to his extremely premature birth and birth weight.
Nathan Richardson, Brody's father, has temporary custody of Brody and asks for continued respect for the family's privacy during this time. Nathan Richardson says that he is thankful for all messages of support and prayers for Brody.
Shannon Richardson, who is currently incarcerated, is charged with mailing a threatening letters to gun control supporters and President Obama. She's currently undergoing a mental evaluation.
The couple is due in court on August 7th for a hearing on whether Shannon Richardson will have to pay child support.
