Sheriff: Children find missing woman dead in the woods

ANGELINA COUNTY (KYTX) - A group of children playing in the woods found the decomposing remains of a woman Saturday afternoon in the rural Rivercrest subdivision near the Angelina River. The children told adults who ultimately got in touch with law enforcement.

Angelina County Sheriff Captain Alton Lenderman told CBS 19 over the phone, the missing woman is 30-year-old Elisha Maxine Henson from Pollok, Texas. She was last seen April 25, and was reported missing May 1st.

Law enforcement said based on the level of decomposition, Henson may have been dead for two to three days. Investigators were able to identify her from two tattoos described in her missing person report.

It's not clear on how Henson died, however this case is being investigated as a homicide. Her remains has been sent to Jefferson County for autopsy.

Sheriffs, DPS and Texas Rangers worked together on this case.
