Shoplifting suspect pulls knife on, bites Sears employee before attempting to flee

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Longview Police Department responded to a call in the 3500 block of McCann Road for an aggravated robbery Tuesday night.

When officers arrived to the Sears store they were told that the suspect identified as 44-year-old Rodney Leandre Webb of Longview pulled a knife on the store's loss prevention employee and also bit the employee during the shoplifting incident.

The employee told Longview officers that he observed Webb shoplifting and when he tried to stop him, Webb allegedly pulled a knife out of his pocket with the blade exposed.

The employee knocked the knife out of the suspect's hand and a struggle began between the two men.

During the altercation, Webb bit the employee while trying to get away.

Other store employees were able to catch Webb and held him until Longview Police arrived.

Webb was arrested for Aggravated Robbery Felony 1 and two outstanding warrants for engaging in organized criminal activity and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Webb was transported for evaluation to Good Shepherd Medical Center for injuries allegedly sustained in the altercation.

Webb is booked in the Gregg County Jail.
