(KYTX) Chief Deputy Bobby Garmon of the Smith County Sheriff's Office turned in his letter of retirement Thursday.
Garmon, who has been with the department for 32 years, says he plans to remain active in the community.
He was a recent candidate for Smith County Sheriff and was hired by Sheriff J.B. Smith as a deputy in 1980.
"I have learned from the best during my tenure," Garmon said in a letter to Smith.
His retirement will be effective Dec. 31. A reception is scheduled for 4 until 7 p.m. at the Rose Garden on Dec. 20.
A separate reception will be held Dec. 21 at the Smith County Annex building.
