Smith County Deputies respond to Labor Day armed robbery

UPDATE: SMITH COUNTY ( KYTX) - Smith County deputies are on the scene of an armed robbery at the Super Mart located just north of Tyler.

Smith County Sheriff spokesperson Krista Caulkins reports at approximately 1:34 p.m. on Monday, September 1, 2014, Smith County Sheriff's Office Dispatch received a 911 call regarding an armed robbery, which occurred at a convenience store located on the 1200 block of East Northeast Loop 323 in the northeastern part of Smith County.

The caller advised that she had just been robbed at knifepoint, and that the suspect had fled the scene.

Sheriff's Office patrol deputies were dispatched and arrived on scene at approximately 1:41 p.m.

The witness stated that an unidentified Hispanic male entered the store holding a knife and speaking only Spanish. The Hispanic male was described as being tall with large build and wearing a tan hat, black short-sleeved shirt and blue jeans.

The suspect fled the scene with an unidentified amount of money in a late model gold Toyota four door sedan.

The temporary paper tags on the vehicle show a tag number of 95V3138 and are registered to an address in Tyler city limits. The Sheriff's Office is coordinating with Tyler Police Department to locate the suspect.

Smith County Sheriff's Office detectives are currently in route to the location for follow up. Smith County Crime Scene Specialists are in also in route to process the scene.

At this time the investigation is ongoing, and more details will be released as they become available.

This is the second armed robbery in Smith County within the past 24 hours.

The Food Fast store located on Hwy 64 west was robbed Sunday around 3 a.m.
