Smith County Texas Nationalist Movement calls for secession

TYLER (KYTX) - The Texas Nationalist Movement is gaining attention after more than 100,000 Texans signed a White House petition to secede from the Union. that's more than any other state.

Thursday night, the Smith County chapter informed the public about why Texas independence makes sense.

Still, not everyone is convinced giving up things like federal funding is a good idea.

"I would be most concerned that the government can continue to help those people who really need help." said Leah Woodruff.

"The federal funding came from us in the first place, ok? It comes out of your paycheck." says Tammy Blair with the Texas Nationalist Movement of Smith County.

Those with the group say they have experienced tremendous growth even before the president's re-election.  Blair says the government has slowly been encroaching on our liberties over the years.
