Soldier from Flint returns home for the holidays

(KYTX) - A young soldier from Flint gets two weeks off to spend Christmas with her family.

Private Kirsten Roush also got a big welcome this afternoon at Tyler Pounds Airport.
She's been training for months as a refrigeration tech in the Army. Tasked with keeping critical medications for injured soldiers at the right temperature.
Today nearly 100 people lined up with flags to thank her for her service.

"I didn't realize that so many people that I don't even know are proud of me being here. That's, I think, wonderful. That's how I see it. This is something completely unexpected for me. And overwhelming," says Private Roush.

Private Roush says she was most looking forward to seeing her sister after getting home. She's hoping to be deployed overseas once she completes her training.
