Sprinkler system averts major damage to Longview fire station

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - When the fire alarm at Longview Fire Station No. 6 sounded at 9:16 this morning, not only was the fire they would respond to inside the building, but it was already extinguished.

According to Longview Fire Marshal Johnny Zackary, a heater in the engine bay where fire trucks are parked caught fire Tuesday morning around structural members of the ceiling. The structure's sprinkler system immediately extinguished the fire, set off the alarm and alerted firefighters who were in Station No. 6's living area.

"Some repairs will be needed, but they are very minimal," Zackary said. "The required fire safety equipment saved the station to where it's still operable."

Fire Station No. 6 is located at 2808 McCann Road, about six blocks south of Longview Mall.
