Standoff over, father/son behind bars

BULLARD (FROM THE SMITH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE) – After a standoff lasting several hours, officers and deputies of the Smith County Sheriff's Office and officers from the Bullard Police Department, arrested 29 year old Justin Dewayne Davis in the 21,000 block of CR 145, just outside the Bullard city limits. Davis was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Responding to a call at approximately 9 p.m. from a woman at the residence who stated that Davis was causing problems, law enforcement personnel arrived at the location and encountered Davis, who was acting erratically.  During the encounter, Davis threatened officers and deputies and retreated into the residence. Davis released two adult females and some children from the residence, but refused to release two other children, ages six and seven.

After obtaining warrants from 241st State District Judge Jack Skeen Jr. to enter the residence and arrest Davis, at approximately 4 a.m. the SWAT team from the Smith County Sheriff's Office entered the residence and arrested Davis without incident. The two children were unharmed and were released to their mother.

During the night, Davis' father, 50 year old Harold Dewayne Davis attempted to pass through a roadblock and proceed to the residence. He was arrested and charged with interference with public duties. Both men were booked in to the Smith County Jail. Other charges are expected to be filed on Justin Dewayne Davis.
