'Stars Over Longview' shine bright

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - A big crowd gathers for a big purpose, for the 13th year. Each January, Longview Regional Medical Center selects 12 women each representing a month in a special calendar, women who stand out like stars in the community.

"It's an amazing honor to know that people in the community took the time and the thought to nominate you."

Today, Reverend Laurinec was one of 12 women nominated by people in the community & recognized as one of the 2013 stars over Longview.

She's the Executive Director over Longview's Newgate Mission. Reverend Laurinec says she doesn't do what she does for recognition, but to be nominated as a star is an honor.

"Long tradition of women who have given their time, treasure and their talents for years and years, so to be apart of that is humbling."

"Some of them are very public women who are out in the public and you would know that they're doing things and some of them are behind the scenes women who are quietly doing things."

Jill Bayless is Chief Operating Officer for Longview Regional Medical Center. She says a lot of time and research goes into narrowing down the nominations.

"It's important for the women's advisory council that they select the most deserving people that year."

48 nominations this year and only 12 chosen. Reverend Laurinec's hard work earned her a nomination.

"I get up at 4 o'clock, that's my time to pray before I go to work, I'm there by 6:30.

I meet with my staff and sometimes I have to pick up the donuts, or pick up somebody who doesn't have transportation, I do Bible study."

By then she says, it's just 8:30 in the morning. She says she's only doing the work she was called upon to do.

"I'm flattered and I'm grateful, but it's not me, I get to do the work that God made me to do."

And to all of the past and present stars over Longview.

"I'm so happy to be part of recognizing you for your great accomplishments, thanks for what you do for Longview."
