DALLAS (CBS) - The fried foods have been chosen, the parade floats, finished - and the rides are ready to go.
The State Fair in Dallas kicks off this Friday, September 28th. But preparations for the big State Fair go beyond just the food and rides. With Dallas at the center of the West Nile outbreak, precautions have been taken to keep fair-goers safe. The fair grounds were sprayed with an extra dose of pesticides this year.
The fair will also be keeping an eye out for signs of swine flu after it was found in pigs at state fairs in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
"We are on the watch for it. We do have a vet that's here on the ground," says State Fair spokesperson Sue Gooding.
All food stands will also get an inspection, as the health department makes sure they're complying with city codes. The Dallas Police Department will once again be there helping keep the peace.
