AUSTIN (KYTX) - A spokesman with the Texas Funeral Service Commission says Vernon Stanmore, owner of Stanmore Funeral Home, was fined by the State Office of Administrative Hearings in June 2013.
Despite our repeated calls, Friday was the first time spokesman Kyle Smith said he could confirm the penalty. Stanmore has appealed the punishment.
Smith says the appeal was scheduled this week for on Nov. 18 in Austin. "I haven't even had a chance to tell Mr. Stanmore yet," he said Friday.
His former sister-in-law has accused him of giving her a hollow corpse of her late husband, then burying the man's organs in another county without telling the widow.
Smith says he won't tell us the amount of the penalty against Stanmore until after the appeal, but most penalties for funeral service violations are capped at $6,000,
This is the eighth complaint against Stanmore in the last decade.
