(KYTX) - Our much-advertised rain event for this week will get going Friday. This afternoon will find scattered to isolated heat-induced showers and thunderstorms just about anywhere across our area. Early this afternoon, there is an area of rain extending from Lufkin to Palestine with some showers just starting to form between I-20 and I-30. The main weathermaker for the forecast general rain is a spinning upper low across Montana which will drive a cold front into the Texas Panhandle tonight and through our area Friday. Rainfall across East Texas is expected to average between 1 and 2 inches, so some heavier amounts are possible in places. Rain will end early Saturday leaving behind a pleasant weekend. Temperatures will be below normal for a change with highs in the 80s thanks mainly to the rain and clouds Friday and the cold front over the weekend. Lows will be in the 60s.
