Sulphur Springs ISD teacher arrested for sexual relationship with student

SULPHUR SPRINGS (KYTX) - On Tuesday, November 20, Sulphur Springs Police Department arrested a Sulphur Springs ISD teacher for having a sexual relationship with a female student.

Sulphur Springs Police Chief Jim Bayuk tells CBS 19 that on Monday, November 19th the Sulphur Springs ISD Police Department contacted him in regards to allegations of a teacher having a relationship with a SSISD student.

Chief Bayuk assigned Special Crimes Unit officers Sgt. Mark Estes, Tony Crouse, and Lt. Harold McClure to investigate the allegation Tuesday.

SSISD teacher Donnie Merle Martin confessed to having a sexual relationship with a student during the interview with the Special Crimes Unit team.

Martin was arrested on a 2nd degree felony offense of having an improper relationship between an educator and a student.

Wednesday morning, Martin was arraigned and his bond was set at $20,000.
