Survey: most adults prefer to move in senior mom over dad

Tyler (KYTX) -- Just in time for father's day-- adults may love their dad, but most say they'd still choose mom to move in with them.

A survey by Visiting Angels, a company that cares for seniors in their homes, found 2 out of 3 middle-aged adults would prefer mom move in over dad if they had to pick.

According to the survey, 70% say dad is sloppier and mom is better with kids. We wanted to see if those findings hold up in East Texas.

We ran into Tory Edwards, who laid out the case for mom.

"I'd choose mom because she's my best friend. I like home cooking and just help cleaning house, and taking care of the dogs," Edwards said.

That survey did find 86% of respondents choose mom because she's better with cleaning and in the kitchen. Some other reasons dad is losing out to mom: 75% say he's not as hygienic.

But that stereotype doesn't hold up everywhere.

"I think dad would be better for me in my case. He's more peaceful, organized," Chris Choice said.

In fact, other people we talked to picked dad.

"Yes my dad is very much organized and very clean," Jana Miranda said.

Of the 1100 adults asked, an overwhelming majority didn't want either parent moving in. And most didn't even have a plan if a crisis happened.
