Suspect charged in Smith Co. shooting that left three people wounded

UPDATE: SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) - Three people were shot overnight in the northwestern part of Smith County, and one person is in custody.

Smith County investigators say a 911 call came in around 9:45 Monday night, when shots were fired in the 23000 block of Dogwood Trail, located in the Enchanted Lakes subdivision.

One man is in custody this morning in the Smith County jail.

Arriving on the scene, deputies discovered three individuals who had received injuries from a shotgun blast, which was fired by Jerry Gene Allen, age 56, who lives at a residence on Dogwood Trail.

Reports indicate that Allen and others had been drinking at a bonfire gathering in the neighborhood when he got into an altercation with several individuals.

Allen left the location and then went into his home and retrieved a shotgun. He then fired the shotgun, hitting a man and two women, causing non-life threatening injuries. EMS responded and treated those who were hit. Two of the victims were transported to a Tyler area hospital.

Allen was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

Several units from the SCSO and one from Lindale PD responded to the call.
