Suspect in Sunday shooting was interviewed in 2010 unsolved murder

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - CBS-19 Has learned the suspect in Sunday's deadly shooting in Longview was involved in another homicide investigation nearly three years ago.

Cedric Bernard Carldwell is in the Gregg County Jail - charged with murder in the fatal shooting of 63-year-old Huey Lee Gray.

Police say Carldwell fired five gunshots at the victim.

Records in the Gregg County District Clerk's Office show that police interrogated Carldwell in July 2010 -- after the body of Carldwell's girlfriend -- Sygunda Williams -- was found dead southwest of Longview.

No charges were ever filed in that case.

Marcus Allen knew the victim in Sunday's shooting and says Huey Gray wouldn't have hurt anyone.

"Well, they're at this point where they think that's what it takes to be a man. And many of them don't have the intestinal fortitude to put their fists up and fight like a man," Allen said.

Carldwell remains in jail today on $175,000 bond. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
