Synthetic marijuana a growing problem in East Texas

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Synthetic marijuana, sometimes called Spice or K-2, is a growing problem in America and East Texas.

In 2012, eleven percent of all high school seniors said they had used synthetic marijuana in the past year. East Texans say it's negatively impacting area families, but Longview Mayor Jay Dean says the best solution is state or federal legislation banning the chemicals used to produce it.

"It's not crack, like, you got to have it. It's something that you smoke and will kill, will kill you," said 19-year-old D'Vontey Latham, of Longview, who says he tried the substance twice.
