Precinct 3 Justice of the peace pronounced 52- year-old Dalton West dead at the scene.
Chief Deputy Gary Cunningham says from reports, it appears that West and his wife were in a heated argument when the couples 16-year-old son entered the room with a .223 rifle and fired one round.
Officers confiscated the weapon, and have interviewed both the mother and son. At this time no arrest have been made, and the investigation is being treated as a homicide.
Chief Cunningham says the 16-year-old is a student at a local high school, and says to his knowledge San Augustine S.O. had not received any prior calls to the residence.
The Body has been sent to Southwest Forensics in Beaumont.
Cunningham says this is the second homicide this year. In March a 62,-year-old man was shot in the head, and his home was then set on fire.
Cunningham also stated the boy own the gun.
